Pediatric Dentistry
Building A Strong Foundation for Lifetime Oral Health.
Establishing your child’s dental health now will provide health benefits well into adulthood. Primary teeth are very important because they guide the eruption of permanent (adult) teeth, holding the space for new teeth to erupt. Additionally, primary teeth help with biting, chewing and speaking. Until around age 12, your child will have a mix of primary and permanent teeth. Our goal is to make sure those teeth stay healthy.
Baby teeth between 6
and 12 months.
Every child is different but most children get their first tooth between 6 months and their first birthday. But even before that, babies will begin exploring the world with their mouth. They will drool and start to put their hands in their mouth. Usually the first teeth to come in are almost always the lower front teeth (the lower central incisors), and most children will usually have all of their baby teeth by age 3.

Pediatric Preventive Services
During a Comfort Visit, your little one will have the opportunity to explore our colorful office, meet our friendly team, and even take a ride in the dental chair! We use playful language and show-and-tell techniques to familiarize children with common dental tools, turning potential anxiety into curiosity and excitement. These early, positive experiences help build a foundation of trust and comfort with dental care that can last a lifetime.
Prophylaxis & Oral Hygiene in pediatric dentistry involves a professional cleaning to remove plaque, tartar, and stains from your child’s teeth. This helps prevent cavities and gum disease. During the cleaning, we also polish the teeth and may apply a fluoride treatment for added protection. Along with the cleaning, we focus on teaching your child good oral hygiene habits like proper brushing and flossing techniques, which are crucial for maintaining a healthy smile between visits. Regular cleanings every six months keep your child’s teeth healthy and set the foundation for lifelong dental care.
A Comprehensive Dental Exam is essential for maintaining your child's oral health and development. During this exam, we review your child's dental and medical history, perform a thorough examination of their teeth, gums, jaw, and bite, and take X-rays if needed to detect issues like cavities or misalignment. We also evaluate gum health, provide a professional cleaning, and apply fluoride to strengthen teeth. As part of the exam, we assess dental development and offer preventive tips on brushing, flossing, and habits like thumb-sucking. These exams are typically recommended every six months for optimal oral care.
Fluoride Treatment in pediatric dentistry is a quick and effective way to strengthen your child’s teeth and prevent cavities. Fluoride is a mineral that helps protect the tooth enamel, making it more resistant to decay. During the treatment, a safe fluoride gel or varnish is applied to your child's teeth, usually after a cleaning. This treatment is especially beneficial for children because it supports their developing teeth and provides added protection against cavities. We typically recommend fluoride treatments every six months to help maintain strong, healthy teeth.
Athletic Mouthguards are custom-fitted devices designed to protect your child's teeth, gums, and jaw during sports or physical activities. In pediatric dentistry, we recommend mouthguards for children who participate in contact sports like soccer, basketball, or football, as they help prevent injuries such as broken teeth or jaw trauma. These mouthguards are comfortable to wear, easy to clean, and offer critical protection, ensuring your child can safely enjoy their activities while keeping their smile intact.
Diet and Nutrition Counseling in pediatric dentistry helps parents and children understand how food choices affect oral health. We provide guidance on a balanced diet that supports healthy teeth and gums, emphasizing the importance of limiting sugary snacks and drinks that can lead to cavities. We also discuss tooth-friendly foods like fruits, vegetables, dairy, and water, which promote strong teeth. By helping families make informed nutrition choices, we aim to prevent dental issues and promote overall oral health for children as they grow.
Dental Sealants are a protective coating applied to the chewing surfaces of a child’s back teeth (molars) to prevent cavities. These areas have deep grooves that can be hard to clean, making them more vulnerable to decay. The sealant forms a barrier that blocks out food and bacteria. Applying sealants is quick, painless, and can last for several years. Sealants are especially beneficial for children who are still developing good brushing habits, offering extra protection during those critical years. We typically recommend sealants as soon as the permanent molars come in, usually around age 6.
Low Radiation Dental X-Rays are a safe and essential tool in pediatric dentistry, used to get a detailed view of your child’s teeth, bones, and surrounding tissues. These X-rays help us detect hidden issues like cavities, tooth alignment problems, or developmental concerns that aren’t visible during a regular exam. Modern X-ray technology significantly reduces radiation exposure, ensuring that it’s safe for children. We use these X-rays only when necessary to monitor growth and identify any potential dental issues early, helping to keep your child’s smile healthy.
